AC-6

Glider AC-6 is a one-seater light towed aircraft which is designed to fly without using an engine and aimed for taking part in gliding competitions.

It also can be undoubtedly used for training flights and also like a form of entertainment.

Fuselage

The AC-6 glider`s fuselage is a represented monocoque type of structural system that gives it heavy-duty durability. The fuselage is 6.75 meters long. It`s overall height is 1.3 meters.

Tail fin is T-shaped.

High-strength aviation foamed plastic and imbued with epoxy resin glass cloth were used for fuselage manufacturing.

Wings

The wing span of the trapezoidal wing is 15 meters. The aspect ratio of an airfoil is 23.6.

Glider AS-6

For wing making laminar airfoil FX60-157 was used. This airfoil, which is standard for AC series of sailplanes, was engineered by The Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology in Braunschweig city (Germany) and has high index of maximal lifting force.

Laminar airfoil should meet great requirements to surface waviness of the wing. The surface waviness along the airfoil is less than 0.1 millimeter (American standard), that is excellent characteristic in such category.

Unit load at the wing by the takeoff weight 255 kg makes up 27.5 kg/m2.

Due to the correct choice of the aspect ratio of an airfoil the glider at the speed 90 kilometers per hour has the time of transposition in a spiral from the angle of list +45 degree to -45 degree no more than 3.5 seconds.

The control of air brakes and ailerons is realized by the system of connected in the center of lateral pulls.

Landing gear

Landing gear of the glider AC-6 is a construction with one retractable main wheel and nonretractable tailwheel, which is aimed for stabilization of glider during takeoff run and landing.

The main wheel with inner tube has size 360x160 millimeters, and the free-wheeling tailwheel has diameter 220 millimeters.

The fit of the wheel is realized by ball bearing.

The shock absorber is constructed using air-overpneumatic system.

Sailplane uses drum brakes. Brake is actuated with a bowden cable. The brakes are controlled by the bicycle brake lever, which is located at the control arm.

Cockpit

At the glider AC-6 spacious one-man cab is installed. The cockpit opens by the opening of central canopy part to the right. The front part of the canopy is fixed.

The field of vision of the cockpit upwards and from side to side is not less than 300 degrees.

For the accident canopy dumping it is necessary to operate two red levers, which are located on the both sides of the canopy.

The cab of the glider AC-6 makes it possible to take seats for tall (up to 190 cm) strong physique pilots with a weight up to 120 kilogram.

The rudder pedals and chair back could be adjusted at length.

The instrument panel contains complete set of standard flight- navigational aids, an at the same time there are some space for additional navigation instruments. In the fin there is an antenna of ultra-short-band station.

The glider has 4-point harness like all other models AC.
